BR Saunders to report fleet carbon from its own lorries, not an industry average, in three-year partnership with Dashe
The third-generation haulier has replaced an industry-average estimate with figures from its own lorries, which covered 992,000 miles in the first half of 2026.

BR Saunders Transport, the family-run haulier based in Walton-on-Thames, has today announced a three-year partnership with Dashe, a real-time carbon data platform. The first stage is already complete: the firm has a carbon baseline for its fleet, a starting figure for its lorries’ emissions worked out from its own vehicles’ records rather than from an industry average.
BR Saunders started using Dashe in August 2026 and brought in its telematics records from 1 January, so the baseline runs from the start of the year rather than from August. Those records cover the first half of 2026, in which the fleet covered 992,000 miles. Since August, the fleet’s data has been recorded in Dashe.
Customers and tenders both ask hauliers for emissions data. The usual answer is an industry average, which assumes an average lorry driven in an average way. BR Saunders can now answer with a figure for its own fleet instead.
“We’ve always tried to run an efficient fleet and do things properly, and we keep looking for the next thing that pushes us on. Showing that to customers has never been straightforward. Dashe gives us the numbers to back up what we’re doing on the ground, without creating a headache for the team.”
Duncan Saunders, Operations Director, BR Saunders Transport
Bernard Roy Saunders and his wife Doreen started the firm in 1952. Their son Paul joined in 1966, and his sons Duncan and Trevor followed in 1996 and 2002. Seventy-four years on, the firm runs lorry-mounted cranes, rigid lorries and low loaders for customers nationwide, and holds FORS Silver accreditation for safety, efficiency and environmental performance. Its motto has not changed: big enough to cope, small enough to care.
The fleet was the first stage. The firm’s sites, waste and the rest of its operation come next, and in the longer term it aims to put a carbon figure on individual jobs.
“Duncan and the team at BR Saunders have been brilliant partners. Plenty of firms can only answer the carbon question with an industry average. It’s like a bank that can only tell you roughly what was in your account a year ago. BR Saunders now knows its fleet’s actual balance, and can show it to any customer who asks.”
Steve Bullen, Co-founder, Dashe
The next time a customer asks BR Saunders for its emissions, the answer will come from its own lorries.
